    Preferred Background

    • A bachelor's or associate's degree in computer science or programming is a common requirement. Extensive hands-on experience in computer networking is sometimes acceptable in lieu of formal education.

    Career Outlook

    • According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs for computer network, database and systems specialists and administrators will likely increase by around 30 percent between 2008 and 2018, much quicker than the projected growth of all occupations.
