What Is an ISO Maker?
An ISO maker is a software application that creates ISO disc images. An ISO image (the initials ISO refer to the International Organization for Standardization) is an exact copy of a compact disc (CD) or digital video disc (DVD). It can also be thought of as a "virtual" disc that functions like a CD or DVD but is stored on your computer.

Copying CDs and DVDs
-
One of the main functions of any ISO maker, such as Magic ISO Maker and PowerISO, is making a virtual copy of a physical CD or DVD. This virtual copy can be stored on your computer or any hard drive. It can later be burned to disc or "mounted" to a virtual disc drive using image-mounting software.
Creating Virtual Discs From Files
-
ISO makers can also create virtual CDs and DVDs from files on your computer. For example, by adding video files created by the multivideo container formats avi or wmv to the ISO maker, you can create a "virtual" DVD of the videos. This virtual disc can later be burned to a conventional DVD to watch on your home television or "mounted" so you can watch it using DVD-viewing software on your computer.

Editing and Converting Disc Images
-
ISO makers can also edit ISO images, which could entail removing chapters from a DVD image or inserting an extra song into a CD image. It could also entail "touching up" audio or video or adding extra content to a disc image. In addition, most ISO makers can convert other disc image types to the more standard ISO format.
