Quad Core 2.4 GHz Vs. Dual Core 3 GHz
The difference between quad-core and dual-core processors is simply the number of independent processors in each unit. A quad-core processor has four units, and the dual-core has only two.

Speed
-
To calculate the speed of a processor, multiply the number of core processor units by the GHz (gigahertz); this will give you the total number of cycles per second. The higher the cycles per second, the more data that can be processed.
Quad Core 2.4 GHz
-
The quad-core 2.4 GHz processor can run 9.6 GHz x (64 bits transferred per clock/8 bits per byte), or 9,600 x 8 bits per second (bps), which equals 76,800 bps.
-
Dual Core 3 GHz
-
The dual-core 3 GHz processor can run 6 GHz x (64 bits transferred per clock/8 bits per byte), or 6,000 x 8 bits per second (bps), which equals 48,000 bps.
Significance
-
Although the quad core is faster, the dual core uses less energy and produces less heat.
