Safety Officer Incident Training

Safety officers are hired by companies to oversee safety programs and ensure the company is in compliance with standards set by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Accordingly, safety officers must be trained on how to deal with incidents that occur in the workplace.

  1. Identification

    • Safety officers must be trained on how to identify the cause of workplace incidents. When accidents or injuries occur, safety officers are responsible for carrying out an investigation to determine how the incident began and how to prevent it from reoccurring in the future.

    Documentation

    • Incidents must be documented, including the date and time during which they occurred. Incident training teaches safety officers how to complete incident reporting forms as well as how to communicate the incident to the appropriate personnel within the organization. Some incidents must be publicized throughout the company to protect the welfare of other employees.

    Emergencies

    • Incident training courses prepare safety officers for handling on-scene safety emergencies and crises. Trainees go through in-class exercises to teach them how to properly handle incidents in the workplace and manage panicked employees.
