What Is an SVGA Projector?

What Is an SVGA Projector? thumbnail
Projectors work well for media presentations.

There are hundreds of projector options of which you can buy, and the most significant difference between all of them is their resolution output. SVGA (Super Video Graphics Array) is a lower-resolution, budget-conscious projector option.

  1. General Resolution

    • A display's resolution is the measurement of the number of pixels in its height and width, such as 800 pixels by 600 pixels or 1600 pixels by 1200 pixels. There are several standard ratios for displays, such as 4 by 3 (height by width). All screen resolutions fit a standard ratio.

    Standard Resolution

    • Standard projectors range in resolution from 800 pixels by 600 pixels to 1600 pixels by 1200 pixels. The projectors can display many different image sizes, but the picture quality (the number of pixels) never increases. As the image size increases, viewers will notice a blurring effect. The most common ratio is 4 by 3, though some projectors output at a different ratio, such as 16 by 10.

    Specs

    • Like all projectors, each SVGA projector can display different image sizes, but SVGA always outputs an 800-pixel by 600-pixel resolution -- a lower display quality compared to other projectors. The image size depends on the specific projector: some permit a minimum of 15 inches and some permit a maximum of more than 350 inches. The lower-resolution capabilities usually mean lower prices for these projectors.
