How Do Fans Move Warm Air in a Room?

Whether you want your room to be cool or warm, a fan can perform both functions. If you know the basics of how a fan operates, it should be easy to learn how to make a fan move warm air through a room.

Ceiling fan

The temperature in a room varies in layers with the warmest air near the ceiling and the coldest air near the floor. A ceiling fan pushes the warm air down towards the floor, keeping the air circulating throughout the room. A ceiling fan should be moving a clockwise rotation to distribute the warm air evenly.

Furnace Fans

Furnace fans are installed in newer homes and force the hot air to move evenly through rooms. These fans can run constantly on a low setting to keep the warm air at a comfortable and constant temperature.

Doorway fans

These smaller fans are used in corners of doorways and can push the warm air from one room, down a hallway or into additional rooms. The fans are smaller and push less air but they are inexpensive and smaller than regular-size fans.
