Bolle Glasses Safety

The Bolle company started in a small town in France in the late 1800s and introduced its first sunglasses in the years following World War II. The company, now owned by Bushnell Outdoor Products, continues to make fashion sunglasses and ski goggles. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Impact Resistance

    • Bolle makes lenses from polycarbonate, a plastic resin. The resulting lenses are 20 times more impact resistant than glass and weigh a third as much.

    Sun protection

    • All Bolle lenses block 100 percent of ultraviolet light, both UVA and UVB. Many of the company's lenses are treated with anti-reflective coating to provide added protection from glare.

    ANSI Standards

    • Bolle lenses exceed American National Standards Institute recommendations for impact resistance, optical clarity and UV protection. According to an article on the ANSI website, "Sunglasses serve an important purpose in protecting people's eyes from sun damage, thus determining if the sunglasses product they seek 'meet the standard' is especially important for improved health and well-being."
