What Tool Is Issued to Spread & Level Aggregate on Driveways? thumbnail
There is a science to building a solid driveway.

Preparation to pour a new concrete driveway requires accurate leveling and placement of aggregate, which is normally used as a base layer. Proper installation necessitates specific tooling, that can be purchased or rented, for a particular job site. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Function

    • Each tool brings the aggregate layer from a rough layer to a finished product. A simple 4-foot wooden strip will suffice to roughly level the layer, using a hand level to verify the work throughout. Afterward, a rented compactor is suggested for the finishing level.

    Considerations

    • Compressing the layer in 2-inch increments is suggested for proper leveling. Also, for hard to reach corners and smaller application regions, a hand tamper tool is recommended for the finishing touches.

    Tip

    • Another simple tool to help strengthen the aggregate base is water. Spraying the base while leveling helps it adhere to itself and creates an effective layer for a concrete driveway.
