How Do Delta Buddy Passes Work?

Delta employees enjoy many perks, including unlimited standby domestic and international flight travel passes throughout the Delta system. Additionally, employees are given eight buddy passes per year; these are reduced-rate standby passes that can be given to friends and family members. While these are heavily discounted travel passes, they are standby, meaning buddy pass passengers board after confirmed passengers.

  1. Buddy Pass Rate Information

    • Buddy pass rates vary according to destination. Employees or buddy pass certificate holders can obtain rate information from the Delta intranet or by calling Delta reservations.

    Standby Priority

    • The standby priority for buddy passes is S-4. Delta employees and their eligible dependents travel on S-3 priority. When arriving at the departure airport, the Delta representative will place the buddy pass holder on the active flight standby list. After all confirmed passengers have boarded, the gate agent will advise standby passengers if there are any available seats on the flight.

    Tips and Travel Advice

    • The best time to use buddy passes are during off-peak travel periods. Spring break is not the time to use a pass if your destination includes a popular beach in Florida, nor is it recommended for summer travel to Europe. Before planning your trip, discuss travel plans with your employee friend or family member.
