Will Lemon & Vinegar Clean Mildew From Kitchen Porcelain Sink?

Mildew on your kitchen sink can be more than unsightly; it can cause health issues in people who are sensitive to mold spores. You can remove the mildew using lemon and vinegar.

Kill Mildew

You can kill the mildew in your porcelain kitchen sink using a mixture of one part white vinegar to one part water. Use a sponge to spread the solution over the mildew and scrub it away. Once the mildew is gone, wash down the sink one more time with the solution to be sure all mold spores have been killed.

Remove Stain

If the mildew has left behind a stain in your kitchen sink, create a paste out of one cup of borax and a quarter cup of lemon juice. Spread the paste over the stained area and let it sit for 15 minutes, then rinse it away with warm water. You could need to apply the paste more than once to completely remove the stain, according to "Organic Housekeeping."

Considerations

If you are concerned about the acid in the vinegar or lemon etching your porcelain sink and damaging it, you can test it by placing a small amount of each cleaning solution on an inconspicuous portion of the sink and letting it sit for a few hours. Diluted vinegar and lemon juice are gentle enough for most porcelain kitchen sinks.
