The Financial Responsibility for a Company-Issued American Express Card
American Express manages corporate credit card programs for businesses small and large. Company-issued credit cards serve two purposes: convenience for employees who travel for business or make work-related purchases and a means to monitor and exercise controls over corporate spending.
-
Personal Liability
-
The company determines who will have financial liability for charges made to the corporate card. The majority of corporations choose personal liability -- which ultimately puts the onus on the employee. This should be documented within the company's corporate card policy as well as within the application you sign with American Express when you accept your corporate credit card.
Accountability
-
Depending on the payment option chosen by your company, either you will make payments directly to American Express or your company will make central payments for all corporate credit cards. It is the responsibility of the employee to file expense reports that coincide with the charges made to the company-issued card. Any charges made to the card that are not valid company charges are the employee's responsibility.
-
Delinquency
-
If you fail to make timely payments on your company-issued American Express card, the delinquencies will be reported to credit agencies and may affect your personal credit report. If your company is delinquent in reimbursing your business expenses, contact American Express directly to advise it of the issue.
