The Greenline recycling facility collects personal computers, monitors, keyboards, mice, printers and electronic equipment for recycling and disposal. Greenline complies with all legal requirements pertaining to waste disposal and recycles up to 95 percent of all collected equipment.

  1. History

    • Greenline, located in Hampshire, United Kingdom was established in 1998 to recycle and redistribute electrical and information technology (IT) equipment. Greenline services large companies and small businesses nationwide.

    Function

    • According to the Greenline website, the company collects the equipment and takes it to their storage facility. Once there, Greenline employees wipes the equipment clean of all data, which destroys any confidential information. When possible, equipment is resold after being cleaned and tested.

    Significance

    • Greenline has a zero tolerance for landfills when feasible. Equipment that cannot be serviced and resold is stripped down to parts, which are redistributed. Once the equipment is stripped, raw materials such as steel, copper, gold, plastic and glass are recycled to be used again in manufacturing.

    Fun Fact

    • A typical personal computer generally contains 35 different materials. These include silver, nickel, copper, lead, zinc, manganese, selenium, barium beryllium, antimony, cadmium, chromium, cobalt, mercury and arsenic.
