SIA Certificate Training
The Security Industry Authority (SIA) is an organization responsible for regulating the private security industry in the England, Scotland and Wales. The SIA has implemented the compulsory licensing of individuals undertaking security work.

Types

The Private Security Industry Act from 2007 requires security guards, door supervisors, cash and valuables transporters, bodyguards, car immobilizers and CCTV operators to train and certify. Licensing must be done for each security category separately to ensure work-related training.

SIA training courses include training in understanding the principles of conflict management, recognizing and assessing risk, communicating effectively in emotive situations, and developing problem-solving strategies. Trainees will also learn laws and regulations, and physical intervention procedures. Training concludes with an examination and certification through SIA.

Time Frame

According to SIA regulations certifiable training can only be performed by SIA-authorized course providers. Courses cannot take place online but must consist of a minimum of 30 contact hours with a tutor (2010). Fees vary depending upon the training provider but start at $265 (2010), certification included.
