The Trek 4300 Disc is an eight-speed hard-tail mountain bike built to perform both on the trail and on pavement. As of November 2010, the suggested retail price for this all-around bike was $660.

  1. Frame

    • The frame of the Trek 4300 is made from Alpha Black Aluminum. The shaped top tube and formed down tube with an integrated gusset make for a stiff ride. The monostay seatstay and forged dropouts complete with rack and fender mounts are a good addition for the price.

    Fork and Suspension

    • With 100 millimeters of travel on the Spinner 300 coiled-spring front suspension, the Trek 4300 can handle all kinds of changes in terrain. The hydraulic lockout lets you choose when you want the suspension on, which is especially helpful when climbing. The preload adjuster lets riders dial the suspension down to the feel they like.

    Components and Brakes

    • The Shimano Acera eight-speed shifters are complimentary to the entry-level price of this bike. A Shimano Altus 42/32/22 crank, Shimano Altus front and Shimano Alivio rear derailleur finish off the rest of the drive train. Promax DSK-907 hydraulic disc brakes help the rider stop fast and perform in all sorts of conditions.

    Pedals and Wheels

    • Shimano alloy hubs, Bontrager Ranger 32-hole rims, and Bontrager XR2 wire-bead 26-inch-by-2.1-inch tires come stock on this bike. Wellgo alloy platform pedals are also standard on the 4300.

    Additional Components

    • Some additional specs on the 4300 are the Bontrager SSR 31.6-mm seatpost with 20-mm offset and Bontrager SSR 25 millimeter rise handlebars. A threadless headset and Bontrager SSR stem are also included.
