Hispanic culture revolves around family and children.

Traditionally, in Hispanic culture, a woman's role is to care for home and family--usually an extended family. According to Cultural Diversity in Nursing, Hispanic women are protected, and revered with full authority in the home, while her husband remains the respected head of the household.

  1. The Facts

    • In Hispanic culture, family is the most important social unit, and family members are expected to extend aid and support to all other family members. Women fully participate in Hispanic culture, as ensuring family solidarity and well-being is her primary role.

    History

    • In the United States, Hispanic culture has grown, especially in the states of Texas, California, Florida and New York. Hispanic women, while acculturating more slowly than Hispanic men, have now fully assimilated into American life, while holding their own in their families and culture.

    Future Trend

    • Hispanic men in the U.S. have traditionally worked in construction, agriculture and service industries. The recession has hit these industries hard, and many lost their jobs. According to the Huffington Post, Hispanic women are working harder than ever. Fifty-six percent of Hispanic women, as of 2010, are responsible for more than half of their family's income.
