Potato Decorating Ideas

Potato decorating is a popular craft requiring imagination that goes beyond Mr. Potato Head.

Ever since Mr. Potato head, the common cooking potato has become a popular item to decorate and animate. Like pumpkins, potatoes are commonly used to create weird and wonderful characters and are often entered in to contests and potato pageants.

  1. Potato Babies

    • Potato babies are cute substitute for Bratz, Barbie or Cabbage Patch Dolls. Grab a large potato, add some colorful buttons for eyes and a nose, and then swaddle the bundle of joy in some cotton batting. When placed in a baby stroller, these spuds look like little bundles of joy.

    Potato Pals

    • The Potato Pals are a series of books published by Oxford University and even have their own YouTube videos. The kids love these characters, and the best part is, they don't have expensive actions figures. Instead, kids can make their own Potato Pals at home using a cooking potato and some common arts-and-craft accessories.

    Frosty the Spud-Man

    • If the holidays are coming up, Frosty the Spud-Man is cute character to make from white potatoes. Stacking three peeled potatoes on top of one another, like a snowman, then decorating him/her with a button-nose and corncob pipe will complete this holiday spud.
