OSHA Regulations on Rubber Speed Bumps
The Occupation Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) has set guidelines for how rubber speed bumps should be constructed and installed. OSHA regulations ensure accessibility of fire vehicles and specify necessary markings on speed bumps.

Fire Service Vehicles
-
The suspension on fire service vehicles requires them to come to a nearly complete stop to pass over speed bumps. Special speed bump designs should be used to allow for fire apparatus to straddle bumps, according to OSHA.
Markings
-
Climates that may accumulate snow and ice should have signs indicating location of rubber speed bumps. The speed bumps should also be conspicuously painted.
-
Logging Vehicles
-
OSHA recommends logging vehicles to have mounting steps and handholds on each vehicle if necessary to prevent injury while entering or leaving the vehicle. Some have argued that these steps may prevent access of firefighting vehicles on roads with speed bumps. However, this is not sufficient reason to discontinue the requirement, according to OSHA.
