QCP Certification Information
The Quality Certification Program is designed to ensure that any interior architectural woodwork project adheres to industry standards. The QCP is administered by the Architectural Woodwork Institute and endorsed by the General Services Administration and the American Subcontractors Association.
-
Eligibility
-
To be eligible for QCP accreditation of a project, applicants must own or lease a manufacturing facility and woodworking equipment. They must also hire or supervise employees working in the architectural woodworking industry and be actively conducting business with the general public. Finally, an applicant must take full responsibility for the quality of his products.
Application
-
The first step in applying for QCP certification of a project is to download the application forms from the AWI website (see Resource). Once completed, an applicant must pay the application fee and then pass a multiple choice test on the latest edition of the AWI industry standards. The next step is to supply the AWI with 10 references from previous firms the applicant has worked with and submit to a plant and field inspection. According to the AWI, most applicants complete this process and receive certification in about 90 days.
-
Cost
-
If the applicant is already a manufacturing member of the AWI, the application fee is $1,650. For all other applicants, the cost of QCP certification is $3,100, as of November 2010.
