About Cyber-Shot Rechargeable Batteries

Sony Cyber-shot batteries are designed for use in the Sony Cyber-shot line of digital cameras. The batteries are rechargeable and available in two different types -- NiMH and lithium-ion -- depending on what battery model a particular camera requires.

NiMH Batteries

Nickel-metal hydride batteries, also known as NiMH, are rechargeable and used to replace alkaline AA- or AAA-sized batteries in Sony Cyber-shot cameras. NiMH batteries can also be used in any brand of digital camera that uses AA or AAA batteries. These batteries recharge quickly -- generally within an hour -- and can be charged up to 3,000 cycles. Although the NiMH charges do not last as long as traditional single-use alkaline or lithium batteries (which vary widely depending on a device's energy use), they are more cost-effective because of their ability to recharge.

Lithium-Ion Batteries

The lithium-ion rechargeable battery is designed for maximum battery life and maximum power. It is also a quick-charging battery that can be used in any type of digital camera that uses lithium-ion batteries. Lithium-ion batteries begin to deteriorate after a year, regardless of frequency of use or the amount of times they are charged. After two or three years, lithium-ion batteries frequently fail altogether.

Recharging

Rechargeable batteries lose a portion of their energy each day when left off a charger. Charge them in the battery charger that comes with the camera for at least five hours before use to achieve maximum battery life. Unplug the charger when the charge is complete or not in use.
