There are online software programs that allow you to create a will without having to hire an attorney. You can designate the beneficiaries who will inherit your assets or name the person who will raise your young children.

How It Works

The software guides you step-by-step in completing and submitting a will questionnaire. Legal professionals then examine your answers. After the legal professionals verify that your information is consistent and correct, they will create your will. You can then print the will or have the software company mail it to you.

Living Will

You can also create a living will, which stipulates whether you wish to be kept alive on artificial life support should doctors determine that you will never regain consciousness from a comatose or vegetative state.

Will Software Programs

Legacy Writer, which allows you to create a last will and testament in three steps, costs $19.95. They also offer a living will for $14.95. Legal Zoom ($39 and up) not only enables you to make a living will, but it lets you appoint a power of attorney who can make healthcare decisions for you. A standard will from Legal Zoom starts at $69. Nolo's Online Will ($59.95 and up) allows you to make unlimited revisions to your will. All prices are as of November 2010.
