Name Badge Standards
Name badges are an informal form of personal identification. Name badges can be used in several situations, but are most commonly found in customer-service businesses and at large networking events.

Corporate Name Badges
-
Standard corporate name badges are 1- by 3-inch plastic or aluminum pins featuring basic employee identification information. Employee first name, last name and position, as well as the business's name and logo, are all appropriate to include on corporate name badges. Some companies may only list first names on employee name badges; others may not include the employee's position. Employee name badges are worn on the left shoulder.
Networking Name Tags
-
Standard name badges for networking events like conferences and seminars are 3- by 4-inch paper stickers or laminated tags with basic identifying information like first name, last name and organization. Additional information, such as position or location, are included if crucial. Name badges are worn on the right shoulder during networking events. Business introductions are traditionally made with a right-hand shake, so placing your badge on your right shoulder immediately focuses attention on your name and affiliation.

Tips
-
Name tags should be placed high on the chest at the flat part of the front shoulder, not on the breast. Placing your name tag higher helps keep your badge from shifting and draws attention closer to the eyes. Font sizes and styles vary for both company and networking name badges; however, Scott Ginsberg, author of "Name Tag Best Practices," cautions that information should be legible from 10 feet.
