What Is the Highest Level in Pac-Man?

In 1999, famed computer gamer Billy Mitchell finally achieved the highest level Pac-Man -- a game invented in the early 1980s, according to "Wired" magazine. Reaching the highest level in Pac-Man is a trial of stamina and focus achieved by a select few.

Identification

Gamers cannot go past Level 256 in Pac-Man, according to Gizmodo. At Level 256, the game crashes at what is called a "kill screen" -- an error that makes further play impossible.

Features

It takes 3,333,360 points to reach Level 256. To receive this amount of points, you need to eat all blue ghosts, fruits, energizers and dots on the previous 255 levels, according to PacManMuseum.

Tip

PacManMuseum suggests waiting to gobble energizers, which turn ghosts blue and are worth extra points, until they are bunched together. If you need to take a break, Pac-Man can hide from ghosts for 18 minutes in the "safe" area located to the right and up a few spots from the play area.
