    • The BLS reports an EKG technician uses machines to trace and monitor the heart rate of an individual by attaching electrodes to various parts of the human body. EKG technicians administer stress tests for medical patients before cardiac surgery and routine checkups.

    Salary

    • As entry level EKG technicians have limited experience, which has a large effect on the salary paid, they can expect to receive less than the average high salary of $74,76. The average low salary for an EKG technician with limited experience is $32,800.

    Median

    • BLS reports the average salary paid to EKG Technicians in the U.S. in May 2008 was $47,010. The majority of EKG technicians, some 50 percent, earn between $32, 800 and $61,580 annually.
