Coat any dirty areas of the cast iron with the oven cleaner. Place the pot in a plastic garbage bag and tie it closed. Let the bag sit overnight and then rub with a scouring pad or wire brush. Rinse the excess cleaner from the pot and lightly dry.
Considerations

Keep the bag sealed, to prevent the oven cleaner from drying out. Depending on the severity of the built up grime, you may need to let the cast iron pot sit for several days before the cleaner begins working.

Warning
-
Using oven cleaner on the inside of the cast iron removes the seasoning left behind from years of cooking. You'll need to re-season the pan before using it.
