Poly Vs. Pleated Filter

Poly Vs. Pleated Filter thumbnail
Poly filters are commonly used in fish tanks.

Pleated and poly filters are very different. The fact that they are both types of filters accounts for the only real commonality between the two. While a poly filter cleans water systems, pleated filters clean air systems.

  1. Filter

    • A filter is any substance or device used to remove impurities from liquid or gas. The substances can include cloth, paper, porous porcelain, charcoal and sand.

    Poly Filter

    • Most commonly used in water aquariums, poly filters filter both fresh and salt water. Made from synthetic materials, poly filters absorb contaminants and toxic material from water tanks.

    Pleated Filter

    • Popularly used in the heating and cooling industry, pleated filters clean air systems. The pleated design in these filters, made commonly from fiberglass, creates more surface area to catch contaminants flowing through an air system.
