The Chevrolet Camaro was released in 1966 for the 1967 model year to compete against Ford's Mustang that was launched two years earlier. The 1989 Chevy Camaro was a part of the third generation whereas the 1995 is a part of the fourth generation.

  1. Engine Specs for 1989 Camaro 305

    • The 1989 Camaro equipped with a base 5.0-liter, 305 cubic-inch, V8 engine produced 170 horsepower. The base 305 engine was standard on the IROC Z-28 and an option on the Camaro RS (Rally Sport). A more powerful 305 engine was available as an option on the IROC Z-28 that produced 195 horsepower with an automatic transmission or 225 horsepower with a manual.

    • The 1995 Camaro with a 3.4-liter, V6 produced 160 horsepower. It was the base engine for the Chevrolet Camaro coupe and convertible. The base 1995 Camaro was available with a standard manual transmission or an optional automatic.

    Major Differences

    • The 305 is more powerful than the 3.4. However, the 305 was not a standard engine for the base model whereas the 3.4 was. The 1995 Camaro offers more safety features such as duel airbags and ABS brakes. The 1995 has better fuel economy as well. The 1995 3.4 estimates 19 miles per gallon for city and 28 mpg for highway and the 1989 305 estimates 15 mpg city and 24 mpg highway.
