Florida CCW Laws
In Florida, anyone over the age of 21 who has taken a complete gun safety course, demonstrated competency in firing a weapon and submitted fingerprints and a background check form is eligible for a concealed carry weapons permit, or CCW permit.

Proper Carrying
-
Persons with a Florida CCW have to exercise extreme good judgment in their handling of their firearm. A weapon should remain concealed at all times unless the threat of bodily harm is present. To "brandish" a firearm is to have the weapon in hand in a dangerous or threatening manner.
CCW and Vehicles
-
Florida law allows those who do not have a CCW license to carry a gun in their private vehicle as long as it is "securely encased." A "securely encased" weapon is in a glove compartment, locked or not, in a snapped holster not on the person or in a zipped gun case or box that requires a lid or cover to be removed.

Off-Limits Areas While Carrying
-
The state of Florida does not permit even those with CCW licenses to carry in certain places. These places include government buildings, courthouses, police stations, public schools or school administration buildings, and bars and establishments where the primary purpose is to serve intoxicating beverages. Up until a rash of attacks on young women in state parks, these areas were also off limits to weapons. As of October 2006, CCW carry in state parks is permitted as long as the CCW was issued in Florida.
