Safety Officers Training

Safety officers are responsible for overseeing safety compliance within an organization. All business entities must adhere to the safety standards set forth by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Accordingly, businesses hire safety officers to ensure workplace safety for employees.

  1. Identification

    • Safety officer training educates people on how to identify hazards within the workplace. Some occupational hazards are well known, whereas others are less conspicuous. It is up to the safety officer to educate the workforce about ways to recognize dangers as well as create policies and procedures for identifying hazards.

    Types

    • Safety officers must be prepared to deal with various types of occupational hazards, according to the OSHA Outreach Training Program Fact Sheet. Training programs teach key concepts, such as equipment safety, chemical safety, hazard communication, personnel protective equipment competencies, fire safety and evacuation procedures, and safety hazards that are directly related to a particular industry.

    Significance

    • Training for safety officers allows them to stay informed about OSHA updates so that their companies will be in compliance with the regulations. Safety officers use the information they obtain to create or enhance safety management protocols within their organizations.
