1939 Plymouth Sedan Information

The Plymouth De Luxe P8 sedan was introduced in 1939. It was the highest priced and most luxurious vehicle in the Plymouth line. Plymouth sedans sat on a 114-inch wheelbase, except for the convertibles. These vehicles were three inches longer.

  1. Engines

    • All Plymouth sedans in 1939 had a six-cylinder "L-head" engine; this 201-cubic-inch inline block engine produced 82 horsepower. It used a single-barrel carburetor. Plymouth mounted the gear shift for the three-speed transmission on the steering column for the first time in 1939.

    Types

    • The De Luxe P8 and the Road King P7 were the two basic sedan models made in 1939. The De Luxe came as a two- or four-door sedan or as a touring sedan. The Road King came as either a business sedan or a touring sedan. Plymouth only made the four-door De Luxe convertible sedan in 1939. Less than 500 were produced.

    Prices

    • The De Luxe P8 ranged in price from $725 for the business coupe to $1,150 for the convertible sedan. The basic four-door sedan sold for $1,005. The Road King's least expensive model was the business sedan at $645. Prices escalated to $740 for the touring sedan.
