How to Chose the Right Chandelier
A chandelier, a branched lighting fixture, can serve as the overall lighting source for a room, as well as introduce a welcoming or dramatic design element. When selecting a chandelier for your dining room, entry hall or bedroom, choose an appropriate style and size to match your decor. Does this Spark an idea?

Style
-
Choose a chandelier that matches the style of the room. For a modern room, consider using a chandelier made of stainless steel or nickel with minimal decorative features. A crystal chandelier adds opulence to the decor of the room. For a tropical design, select a chandelier made of natural materials like rattan or bamboo.
Size
-
Give careful consideration to the size of your chandelier. The website Lighting.com recommends adding the room length and width together in feet to determine how many inches in diameter the chandelier should measure. For example a 12-foot by 12-foot room requires a chandelier 24 inches in diameter. If you plan to hang the chandelier over a table, divide the table width in half to find the appropriate diameter for the lightening fixture.

Lighting
-
Avoid choosing a chandelier that requires too many lights. When selecting a fixture with multiple bulbs, only install light bulbs that meet the chandelier manufacturer's wattage requirements. If you want 240 watts of light and the chandelier takes four bulbs, use four 60-watt bulbs. If the fixture takes 6 bulbs, use six 40-watt bulbs.
