Automotive computer training involves study in such areas as onboard computer diagnostics, engine electronics maintenance and vehicle computer system repair. Several schools include automotive computer repair as part of automotive technician training.

    • Subject matter covered in automotive electronics training includes charging system fundamentals, onboard computerized engine control, emission control systems and fuel-injection system management and repair. Other topics include engine performance and computer systems, advanced diagnostics, lights and instrumentation, security and navigation systems, electronic restraint systems, and sound systems and power accessories.

    Duration

    • Program length depends on the training provider and the comprehensiveness of the coursework. Automotive computer training is commonly included in formal automotive technician training programs. For example, the automotive technician training program from CBT Direct includes 119 hours of coursework involving automotive electronic systems maintenance and repair.
