How Do I Get a CDL in Nevada?
There are various types of commercial driver's licenses for which a Nevada resident can apply. However, as each CDL requires different skills, Nevada imposes different age and testing requirements.
-
CDL Office
-
If you are applying for a new commercial driver's license, you must go to your local CDL office.
Age Requirements
-
Anyone who is 18 or older is eligible to apply for a CDL; however, CDLs held by individuals younger than 21 are restricted. To operate a commercial motor vehicle that may transport passengers and/or hazardous material, an operator must be 21 or older. To operate a commercial motor vehicle that is more than 70 feet long, an applicant must be at least 25.
-
Medical Examination
-
You must submit to a medical examination by a licensed physician. After the examination, the physician must fill out a Medical Examiner's Certificate, which should be shown to your local CDL office.
Knowledge Tests
-
Applicants must take the general knowledge written test. You may also be required to take an additional written test that is applicable to the type of CDL for which you are applying.
Skills Test
-
Schedule and pass a driving skills test at your local CDL office.
