Underwater Helicopter Evacuation Training

According to the University of Louisiana Lafayette's Marine Survival Training Center, simulators are commonly used in the training of individuals for underwater evacuation from a ditched helicopter.

  1. Uses

    • The SEFtec website reports Helicopter Underwater Egress Training (HUET) is used by businesses and military organizations that transport employees over large bodies of water by helicopter. HUET programs are provided by companies transporting workers to and from oil and gas rig platforms.

    Courses

    • HUET courses cover a variety of subjects, including emergency procedures following an impact and positions of passengers under brace for impact instruction, according to the University of Louisiana Lafayette. Training is also provided in subjects such as operation of exits and swimming through oil, debris and fire.

    Simulators

    • The training provided for HUET is done in a simulated helicopter body in a controlled swimming pool environment, providing attendees with practical experience of a simulated emergency impact onto water. The University of Louisiana Lafayette reports simulators are designed to replicate the layout of the specific aircraft used by a company or military agency.
