The analysis of groundwater determines quality and contamination issues. In addition, using several analytical techniques such as water sampling and GIS modeling, water managers predict utilization, pollution hazards and other potential problems.

  1. Quality Control for Health

    • Water is a universal solvent, meaning it dissolves chemicals. Because groundwater moves through soil and rocks, the water can pick up many chemicals that could be hazardous to human, wildlife and plant health. Groundwater is analyzed for quality control.

    Types of Analysis

    • Water quality analysis of groundwater determines nutrients and pollution of the water. With recent technological advancement, geoanalysis utilizes geographical information systems which determines location, size and ground water flow. Hydrochemical analysis determines if the water is suitable for drinking, agriculture or industrial use by understanding and predicting rock-water interaction.

    Assessments

    • Using these types of analysis can affirm important information needed to properly manage the groundwater system and the land above it. By utilizing these analytical methods, problems such as mineral toxicity, salt water intrusion and landfill or sewer seepage are assessed.
