Aircraft Firefighting Training

Airport firefighters receive specialize training.

Expand upon your basic firefighter skills while training to become a specialized firefighter. Aircraft firefighters can work for either a commercial or military airport facility. Airport firefighters utilize foam more often than water to quash flames.

Fuel Spill Course

Airport firefighters must possess all of the state-mandated firefighting credentials and undergo training courses specific to airport firefighting and rescue. An aircraft fuel spill course includes eight hours of classroom instruction and a "live fire" training scenario. The main focus of the class is to train firefighters to deal with large fuel spills.

Aircraft Firefighting Course

An aircraft firefighting class also requires eight hours of classroom training and "live fire" scenarios. This class focuses on interior airplane fires which could occur in a passenger cabin, galley, baggage compartment, engine and cockpit.

Rescue Course

The aircraft rescue course requires 40 hours of both classroom and live scenario instruction. During the class, firefighters learn how to combat hazardous materials fires, and how to deal with airport infrastructure, foam management systems, rescue techniques, and fire suppression.
