Water Problems
-
Water can seep into basements. Be sure that windows and doors leading to the outside of the home are sealed tight, and that there are no cracks in the foundation or pipes. The water heater needs to be working properly so that water problems will not arise there.
Insufficient Light
-
Outlets and switches will have to be installed to be sure that sufficient light is available in the basement. The windows in this area of the home do not generally provide this. Have plenty of lamps plugged in.

Exposed Features
-
Some of the features that may be exposed are the washing machine and dryer, an oil drum and a hot water heater. A cabinet can be built to enclose the laundry area. Build enclosures around the oil drum and the water heater so that they are not noticeable.
