Orange Honeysuckle Vine

Orange honeysuckle (Lonicera ciliosa) is a perennial twining vine native to the United States. Known for its orange, trumpet-shaped flowers, it is frequently used as a landscaping plant. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Identification

    • Able to climb 10 to 30 feet, orange honeysuckle has simple oval or elliptical leaves that are green and deciduous, shedding in fall. The vine blooms in late spring with clusters of narrow orange flowers up to 2 inches long. It also produces small red-orange berries that are eaten by wildlife.

    Natural Range

    • Orange honeysuckle is native to the Pacific Northwest, extending from British Columbia south through California and east to Utah and Montana. It is hardy to USDA zone 5.

    Uses

    • This vine's showy spring blooms make it a useful ornamental plant; it can grow up trees and around arbors and trellises. Plant it in moist, well-drained soil with partial shade for best results. It attracts hummingbirds and other wildlife.
