1968 Dodge Dart GTS 440 Information

The Dodge Dart was a compact car built on Chrysler's A-Body architecture. The 1968 model year saw the production of 80 Dodge Dart GTS models that came with a 440-cubic-inch engine. This was the largest engine ever equipped in the Dart.

  1. Engine

    • The Dodge Dart GTS 440's V-8 engine produced 375 horsepower at 4,600 revolutions per minute (rpm) and 480 ft-lbs. of torque at 3,200 rpm. These horsepower numbers helped power the vehicle once it was up to speed, while the high torque numbers represented the twisting force generated by the motor. This twisting force aided in acceleration.

    Dimensions

    • The 1968 Dodge Dart GTS's compact A-Body chassis gave this muscle car an 111-inch wheelbase with a 58.1-inch front track and a 56.3-inch rear track. The body of this car had an overall length of 195.4 inches. It was 69.6 inches wide. This same chassis underpinned the Plymouth Valiant and Plymouth Barracuda.

    Performance

    • The Dodge Dart GTS's 440-cubic-inch engine pushed it from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just five seconds. This muscle car could travel a quarter-mile in 13.3 seconds at 107 mph. The compact chassis of this vehicle gave it a 38.7-foot turning diameter.
