DVD Vs. CD Storage
The humble compact disc (CD) has been largely replaced by the digital versatile disc (DVD), as the latter offers dramatically improved storage over its predecessor. Does this Spark an idea?

CD Storage
-
Full-sized CDs are able to store around 700 megabytes of data per disc, though this can vary depending on the brand of CD. An 8 centimeter "mini-CD" can hold around 200 megabytes, though again, this can vary depending on the brand.
DVD Storage
-
DVD capacities vary widely depending on the technology used to create the DVD. The most common DVDs are the single-sided, single-layered version which holds around 4.7 gigabytes. At the high end is the rare double-sided, double-layered DVD which holds 17 gigabytes. Mini-DVDs range from 1.46 and 5.32 gigabytes, depending on the number of sides and layers.

Blu-ray

The latest generation of optical discs are the Blu-ray discs which hold 50 gigabytes. They are expected to replace DVDs.
