What is an EMC Retrospect?
EMC Retrospect is a data protection software designed primarily for businesses. It runs on both Windows and Mac machines.
-
Primary Purpose
-
Retrospect is meant to be installed on a single, secure computer in a network. That computer then collects and stores vital information held within the network, protecting such information from being destroyed by small problems (such as a single machine malfunctioning), or large disasters (such as a flood or fire destroying the network). Retrospect even uses online backup, meaning if the computer installed with the program is destroyed, you can still retrieve your information via Mozy, a secure online data storing company.
Data Stored
-
Stored items can be as small as specific files or folders, or as large as entire hard drives. Though the computer using Retrospect must be either Windows or Mac, a single computer using the program can retrieve and store data from any Linux, Windows, Solaris, Macintosh or NetWare machine.
-
Change to Roxio
-
EMC has become partners with Roxio software, a division of Sonic Solutions, and though EMC still develops Retrospect, the program has been renamed Roxio Retrospect.
