Measurements for Different Bed Sizes
Mattresses date back to simple sleeping mats thrown on the ground, with stuffed mattresses appearing as early as 3,000 B.C. By the 16th century, these mattresses rested upon wooden platforms. Today's beds consist of the mattress, a supportive spring system and a bed frame, sized according to the consumer's sleeping needs. These have been standardized today as twin, twin XL, full, queen and king sizes. Does this Spark an idea?

Twin Beds
-
Twin or single beds are 39 inches wide and 75 inches long and fit well in small rooms. Usually a choice for smaller rooms/spaces, twin beds often come with additional features such as hidden trundle beds or storage drawers. Twin beds are also available as bunk-beds (they can be stacked to create the bunk) or can be placed side by side to serve as regular beds.
Twin Extra Long Beds
-
Twin extra long beds are as wide as the regular twin beds, but 5 inches longer. They are designed to accommodate taller kids, teens and adults. Two twin extra long beds can be pushed together to form a king size bed.

Double Beds
-
Double beds, also known as full-size beds, are 15 inches wider than a twin bed with the same length. The dimensions for a double are 54 inches x 75 inches. A double can sleep two adults, although in very limited space.
Queen Beds
-
Queen beds measure 60 inches wide and 80 inches long. This size works well in small master bedrooms and guest rooms.
King Beds
-
King beds are available as standard (Eastern) king and California (Western) king. A standard king mattress measures 76 inches x 80 inches, while a California king's dimensions are 72 inches x 84 inches.
