Guitar Amplifier Building Techniques
There are two main benefits to amplifier building. You get to pick the spec and style of the amplifier and you save money. The choice of tubes, output transformers, speaker and signal chain will greatly influence the sound of your amplifier.

Amplifier Kits
-
Kit assembly is a popular amp-building technique. A kit comes with all of the necessary parts that are compatible. The kit also comes with a wiring diagram that makes kit assembly relatively straightforward. You simply solder and wire the parts in order and load them in to a pre-made cabinet.
Salvaging
-
Constructing an amp from salvaged parts is a cheap amp-building technique. It is more time-consuming as you have to search for compatible parts. You also have to construct your own cabinet or modify a salvaged one in order to house your range of different parts. This technique requires an advanced understanding of electronics.

Technique Comparison
-
Kit building is faster and requires less technical knowledge, but the sound options are limited. Parts salvage requires a deeper understanding of electronics and amplification but you have a potentially limitless choice of sound options. Both methods require soldering, wiring and an understanding of circuit diagrams.
