How Do I Scotchguard a Chair?
Trying to keep your favorite chair looking new can prove challenging, especially if you have pets or kids. Coat your chair with Scotchgard to prevent stains from soaking into the fabric. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Process
-
Cover any areas without upholstery with masking tape and newspaper. After shaking the bottle well, spray Scotchgard on a small inconspicuous area in a sweeping motion. Hold the can about 8 inches away from the surface. If the area does not change after 12 hours, spray the remaining part of the chair. After allowing the first coat to completely dry, apply another coat. After 12 hours you may use the chair.
Precautions
-
If you accidentally spray a painted or stained surface, immediately stop, and quickly wipe the overspray with a clean dry cloth. Reapply Scotchgard after cleaning the chair or blotting spills to retain the repellency.

Expert Advice
-
3M, the manufacturer of Scotchgard, recommends that you check to see if your chair has a cleanable code on the label. If the label says "X" then you cannot use Scotchgard; instead, vacuum or brush it only. If it reads "W/S," standing for water and solvents, or "S" for solvents, you can use Scotchgard.
