Are Vision Plans Subject to Cobra?

Are Vision Plans Subject to Cobra? thumbnail
COBRA continues health benefits after your employment ends.

The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, also known as COBRA, was created in 1985. COBRA continues health care coverage provided by your employer, for at least 18 months and covers all plans you had in place before your employment separation occurred.

  1. Vision Plan

    • If you had a vision plan before you separated from your employment, you can choose to keep your vision plan through COBRA. The vision plan continues, uninterrupted, as long as you elect to use COBRA for continuation of your benefits.

    Benefits

    • COBRA applies if you and your dependents were enrolled in a health insurance plan when you became separated from your employment. You can choose which benefits you want to keep, including dental, vision and medical. The benefits can vary per person.

    Coverage

    • Within 60 days after your separation from employment, you must decide if you want to use COBRA for your health plan. If you choose to use COBRA, you experience no interruption of coverage.
