    • According to the NAHB Research Center, hot water recirculating systems are simply comprised of three components: a zone valve, a control unit and a pump. The pump functions by pushing the cold water within the pipes around to the hot water heater and back out through the pipes in a continuous process, creating a hot water loop that can be accessed whenever a faucet is turned on.

    Types

    • Controllers for these systems vary from thermostats to timers, but all controllers regulate the valve when the optimum temperature is achieved, shutting the pump down for energy savings.

    Capacity

    • It is only necessary to have one recirculating pump per residence or business, since it can service each fixture or faucet easily.
