Why Do We Get a Script Error Message From Quickbooks?
A "Script Error" message sometimes appears using QuickBooks software. Sometimes it happens when you are registering the software with Intuit. Other times you will get the error when you are using the Live Community feature or when the closing date prevents a change to a time sheet.

Registering QuickBooks
-
When you are in the process of registering the QuickBooks software, you may see the Script Error message. According to Intuit, you must close all the company files that are open and then click on the "Help" button in the menu bar. Scroll down to the "Register QuickBooks" option and click the "Begin Registration" button. If the automatic registration process runs into difficulties that would generate an error message, a window will pop up with the Intuit Customer Service telephone number. Call the phone number to call in and complete the registration over the phone.
When Using Live Community Sidebar
-
The Live Community feature is an online billboard for QuickBooks users and Pro-Advisors to share feedback, ask and answer questions and more. The reason for receiving this error message seems to be an issue with Windows 7 or Internet Explorer 8. The error window that opens prompts you with the question, "Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?" In order to fix this problem, continue to click on the "Yes" box until the error window closes.

Time Sheet Dates
-
When a closing date has been established, it locks you out of changing or adding any transactions that are dated prior to the closing date. If you close out the business year as of the end of December 31st and then attempt to use a date in creating time sheets or payroll that is prior to the closing date, you will generate a Script error. To change this, open the company file. Choose the "Edit" feature and click "Preferences." Scroll down to the "Accounting Preferences" option and choose the "Company Preferences" and then the "Closing Date" section. Click the "Set Date/Password" button and change the date to one prior to the time sheet. Click "OK."
