Lipodissolve Treatment

Lipodissolve targets localized fat.

The high number of liposuction procedures performed on reality TV makeover shows reflects real life statistics. In 2010, the American Society of Plastic Surgeon lists liposuction as one of the top five cosmetic surgery treatment performed in the United States. Lipodissolve is a procedure which offers a less invasive alternative to liposuction.

  1. Purpose

    • During lipodissolve, a physician injects a cocktail of chemicals into the fat layers and connective tissue of a patient. The cocktail also contains enzymes, multi-vitamins and plant extracts. The procedure, also called mesotherapy, lipolysis, injection lipolysis or lipostabil, requires no anesthesia and causes a chemical reaction that dissolves small, localized areas of fat.

    Price

    • In 2010, a lipodissolve procedure costs between $375 and $1,500, depending on the area targeted and the amount of the solution needed. Some patients require up to six treatments.

    Problems

    • As of 2010, lipodissolve was still in clinical trials and did not have FDA approval for fat removal. In 2010, the Food and Drug Administration issued warnings about false and misleading claims about lipodissolve products. The FDA warns that patients may experience side effects such as permanent scarring, skin deformation and deep, painful knots in the treatment area.
