Boiler Operations & Maintenance Training
Boiler operations and maintenance technicians manage the installation, maintenance and repair of large containers of liquid and gas. These professionals are commonly referred to boilermakers. Training for boiler operators and maintenance technicians is vital, and takes place in a variety of forms.
-
Education
-
A high school diploma (or GED equivalent) is normally the only education required to become a boiler operations and maintenance technician. While in school, boilermakers often focus on courses in science, math, English and physics.
Apprenticeship
-
All aspiring boiler operations and maintenance technicians must go through an apprenticeship program, which offers both classroom and hands-on training. These programs vary, but can take anywhere from two to four years to complete. Those with welding experience "get priority" when it comes to selecting candidates for apprenticeship programs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

On the Job
-
Boilermaker operations and repair technicians can receive the majority of their training while on the job. That's especially true of the job's particulars, which technicians learn under the direction of an experienced worker or supervisor.
