What Is the KDE4 Virtual Desktop Pager?
The KDE4 serves as a graphical user interface for Unix workstations containing accessibility features such as panel applets. One panel applet, the virtual desktop pager, designates and switches between different work spaces.

KDE4 Panel Applets
-
Panel applets like the pager are located in the KDE panel and designed to control the Unix work space. The applets offer quick access to different applications and system information. Panel applets can be run as a subset of the panel--sharing memory with it --or as a separate process with its own memory. The former offers a reduction in processing space, while the latter increases stability (if the pager crashes, it won't also crash the panel and other applets).
The Pager
-
The pager is located on the bottom right-hand corner of the panel next to the clock and system tray. It isn't fixed in size; the greater the number of work spaces in use, the larger it will become. The size can be changed by editing the program's source to designate a new default.

Function
-
The pager is used to quickly switch between different work spaces, or "virtual desktops," on the system. The pager can be used to change the amount and arrangement of the work spaces by right-clicking on the applet. If Desktop Effects is available, pressing "Control" plus "F8" will display the contents of the pager in full-screen mode.
