Information About Electric Scooters
Electric scooters are two- or three-wheeled vehicles that are similar to bicycles or motorcycles, but use an electric motor to provide power. Most scooters are environmentally friendly and come in manual-, gas- and electric-powered versions.

Environment
-
Electric scooters do not produce harmful emissions and run quietly compared to gas scooters. Rather than a lawnmower- or leaf-blower-like noise that gas scooters produce, electric scooters emit a low humming sound.
Engine
-
Like all electric devices, an electric scooter's engine power is measured in watts. In general, 746 watts of electrical power equals one horsepower. Electric scooters with an engine output of 300 watts or less are not recommended for use on rough or steep terrain or by riders who weigh more than 180 lb.

Price and Travel
-
Price ranges for electric scooters depend on the type and size of the scooter. Electric scooters designed for children generally cost between $200 and $400, while adult-sized electric scooters start as low as $300, but often cost more than $1,000, as of November 2010. Electric scooter speeds range from 8 to 25 mph, and a single battery charge will provide between eight and 20 miles of traveling distance.
